Doggone it!

My cousin has wanted a dog for a long time now. It has never been the right time though. She just got married in December (see my post about it here) and now they are buying their first house. Her birthday is in March so her new husband told her that he would give her an IOU for a dog and they would get one as soon as they closed on their house.
She called me the other day telling me all about the IOU, the house and her excitement in getting a dog soon.
Back in September-ish, she came over to my house one day to start planning her wedding and talk about my part in it (I was the Maid of Honor). That day, she fell in love with Otis my little cockapoo. She said he was exactly the kind of dog she wanted when she got one.

OK, so the other day, my friend that breeds these cockapoos calls me and tells me that she thinks one of her puppy's from the last litter is in the shelter here. There is a picture on line and I go look. It indeed looks like one of her puppies, black and oh so cute! So I get the idea to call my cousin and see if she wanted to snatch this little cutie up. She went to the website and mulled it over, talked with her hubby about it and called me later that night. She said 'we love her, we want her' and other stuff like that, and I told her I would be willing to be a foster puppy mom until she was able to come and pick her up (she lives in a different state than me), and so she told me to go pick her up in the morning.
I was so excited for her! But I worried that I would get there and either the puppy would be gone, or taken or unavailable in some way, though how I don't know because I had called the shelter just before they closed and inquired about her (before I talked to cousin).
So the next morning comes and after I get the girls off to school, I head over to the shelter. I was there right when it opened. I walked in and told them I wanted that black cockapoo that they had advertised on the Internet and they look at me and say, "Oh no, she's been taken, it was just finalized this morning. The lady is coming from Colorado to get her" I was shocked, and then devastated. I finally asked them to take my name and number so they could call me if the lady backed out or something, and left. I called my cousin and left a voice message basically telling her that I was so sorry but the puppy was taken and she wouldn't be having her after all. I felt like I had led her on. I was very sad. I was sad for my cousin, sad for me, sad that she wouldn't have the sibling to my sweet Odie.
The day goes on. Then at about 2 PM, I get a call from the shelter. They ask for me, and then say, "do you still want this puppy?" I was like "YES!"
Then they said that the lady that had been going to buy her, just called and her hubby wouldn't let her come and pick the pup up. So come and get her! I can't tell you how happy I was, and how glad I was that I thought to leave my name and number, if I hadn't done that they would have never known how to get a hold of me.
I called and left a different kind of voice mail for my cousin, all happy and smiles this time.
So I went and got her, and am keeping her for a month or so until my cousin gets here to pick her up. She will get all finalized and closed on her house first and then head over. We have had the puppy for 3 days now and it has been so fun. The only thing I really worry about is the kids falling in love, and the puppy getting so used to being around kids and other dogs, but she will adapt and adjust and so will the kids. We will enjoy it while she is here.
My cousin calls every day to see how things are going. I am so happy things worked out the way they have. I guess it was meant to be!
Isn't she a doll?!

She does look sweet! Assuming your cousin wants to have kids someday it is awesome that the dog is adjusting to that already! You have a lucky cousin. :)
