Sawyer Dell Mead came to the world on April 1, 2010 at 11:51 AM, weighing in at 8 lbs 2 ozs. and 19 1/2 inches long. He is so beautiful!


I was scheduled to go in to the hospital to be induced at 7:30 AM on April 1st.

I woke up around 6 AM and got up from the bed to go take a shower. As soon as I stood up I felt like I had a full bladder, and then all of a sudden I felt like I wet myself a little. I was feeling a little foolish thinking that my bladder control was all but gone, and went into the bathroom. As soon as I stood up from the toilet another little goosh of fluid came out and I jumped into the bathtub to avoid any messes. I realized then that my water must have broke! That had never happened to me before, so it was quite exciting for me. I went ahead and had my shower, and then I woke Dell up saying, "I think my water broke, we need to go." He jumped out of bed and got all the stuff in the car and ready. It had snowed over night. Fun.

We were at my mom's house and she didn't have any feminine protection available, so I put a washcloth between my legs and we headed out. On the 20 minute drive to the hospital, my contractions got more and more intense coming between 4 and 5 minutes apart. We got to the hospital around 7 AM, and checked in. At the desk we told them we were scheduled to be here at 7:30, but the baby was on his own schedule. :)


They got me into a room, and all set up, and checked me. I was dilated to 5 cm already and 90% effaced.


Labor progressed and when I was a 6, I got an epidural. Heaven. After that, it was all down hill. I continued to progress, though a little slower because of the epidural. When the Dr. came in he looked at the clock and said "What time are we going to have a baby?" We all told him before lunch, and he said "OK" and left for a little while. It was about 9:30 AM at this point.

I was feeling fine, and kinda starting to feel the contractions again when they decided to check me again. I was a 10! The nurse said, I think I'm going to call the Dr. now and get him over here. So she did, and he got to my room around 11:15 AM. He said, "are we ready to have a baby?" I told him I so was and he got all his stuff on and told me on the next contraction to start pushing.

I did and I guess I did a good job, because there was a lot of cheering. I pushed 3 times in that contraction and then did that 3 more times for a total of 4 sets of 3 pushes (4 contractions) and he was out! He was born at 11:51 AM, just in time for lunch! :)



He has been a good baby and a fantastic nurser and he's already a week old today! He does like to scream when he isn't getting fed fast enough, but he sleeps really well already, only waking up once in the night to nurse. I do feel sleep deprived, but not as much as I could be.

His sisters love him and dote on him, especially Sabryna, and Ryver isn't jealous.... yet.

Daddy loves having a boy too, he's been so great.

I love having a boy already it's wonderful.
