So over the weekend we went to my Aunts house to celebrate 4 that had come together at the same time. Also my cousins from Washington were there with their twins. (two of the October birthdays mentioned) And my cousin Lisa with her three boys. (her Spencer has one of the birthday's too but I didn't get a picture of him :( )
My cute cousins with their twin babies (turning 1!) Addison and Ethan
It was a good time getting together with family rarely seen and chatting and celebrating. All the birthdays we celebrated are in the first week of the month on the 2nd, 3rd, and 7th. We even got Ryver in on the action, putting a birthday hat on her car seat...and isn't she just so cute wearing it?

The drive over the canyon wasn't the funnest, it was pouring rain the way there and snowing the way back...isn't it still September? (Well, it isn't now, but it was when I was driving.) I can't really even remember the last time there was snow in September, but it sure blanketed Provo and Springville. I guess summer is officially over. :( That's sad. But it's fun breaking out the warm winter clothes, which is what I have on the agenda for today. Cleaning my kids room at the same time, which, just thinking about it makes me tremble with fear. I have to do it while they are gone, so I can throw things away that they would normally keep (pieces of paper, broken crayons, cheap toys from McDonald's, shoe boxes, paperclips, and a various assortment of other 'treasures' that just aren't) and the only time I can throw them away is when they aren't around. So that's my agenda for the day.
The primary program was good. All the girls had a part, Sabryna actually had a talk that she wrote herself and she did a great job! Mychigan did great and Daisy was so cute waving at me while she did her little part. A lot of people came up to me afterward and told me how cute Daisy is. I know, isn't she though?
All in all it was a pretty great weekend, except for the grounding Sabryna got for not listening or minding. All my kids seem to have selective hearing (I know most kids do) and hear nothing I say. It is really frustrating. I feel like most parents kids at least hear what their mom says even if they choose not to listen. Mine don't. They really don't. I feel like I am talking to a brick wall sometimes. (and I have had their hearing checked...it's just fine) Last night I was talking to Daisy (granted, she is only almost 4) and I just told her that I need her to mind better. Then I asked her what I had just said and she said *shoulder shrug* "I don't know, I'm smiling at you mommy!" I mean, seriously! Any suggestions on how I should go about this? It's not just Daisy either, it's all of them. When I am talking to them, they are talking to each other or walking away, like they can't even hear me! I'm just about at my wits end, and need some advice, so any of you who have tried and true methods that work, I would love to hear them, or any suggestions! They really are good girls, but they need to work on listening and actually hearing when mom talks.
Thanks any and all!

daisy's quote of that night:
"I'M NOT A COW! I'M A RABBIT!!"
Well we have a lot of non-listeners here.... but our latest attempt has been to sit them all down at the table and hold a meeting where they are then asked what was just explained to them and when we feel they have it, we let them down. This works for a few days ... must be repeated often. good luck!
I find that saying the child's name first, to get their attention, usually works.
Huh? What did you say?
I have no good advice for getting kids to listen. Wish I did and I'd give it to myself! :)
I'm with Cecily sweetie, sorry! I have no good advice & I REALLY wish I did. We are having the same issues here! I did have my husband sit them down last time he was home & talk to them about minding mom. They listen to him better, it did improve a little after the daddy meeting. Maybe that might work.
Good Luck! - Kate
